Birthing services
We provide 24-hour midwifery and nursing care during and after birth.
We provide a relaxed homelike environment enabling uninterrupted birth and adjustment to parenthood, with time to support you during breastfeeding. This may include an extended stay to establish breastfeeding if you live remotely.
Our maternity unit is fully equipped for childbirth, and the midwives are regularly trained to deal with emergencies. We occasionally transfer women to tertiary services at Christchurch Women's Hospital if necessary.
If you give birth at Christchurch Women's Hospital, you can transfer to Ashburton community birthing unit for postnatal care.
We provide:
- free childbirth eduation classes
- free drop-in pregnancy testing
- 2 fully equipped birthing rooms
- a birthing pool
- an assessment room
- postnatal rooms with queen beds
- 2 single postnatal rooms
- pull-out beds for your support person to stay with you
- antenatal clinic rooms
- free parking
- Wi-Fi internet access
- a lounge with a TV
- kitchen facilities and a lounge.

We have a kitchen for tea, coffee, toast and biscuits. The kitchen opens to an enclosed courtyard garden. We provide a supper of scones, muffins or cakes in the evenings.
