Services we provide

Fourth year University of Otago physiotherapy students work at Christchurch Hospital and Burwood Hospital on supervised clinical placements.

Christchurch Hospital

Registered physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants participate in the following services and teams:

  • the emergency department, including orthopaedic acute care
  • inpatient wards
  • outpatient services.

Outpatient services physiotherapists participate in include surgical pre-operative clinics and services for:

  • haemophilia
  • hand therapy
  • heart failure
  • musculoskeletal treatment
  • paediatrics
  • respiratory treatment
  • women’s health.

Burwood Hospital

The physiotherapy service provides assessment, treatment, education and discharge planning services to the rehabilitation teams at Burwood Hospital.

Registered physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants participate in the following services and teams:

  • Burwood spinal unit
  • brain injury rehabilitation unit
  • orthopaedic surgical unit
  • pain management service
  • outpatients department.

Hydrotherapy Pool

​Burwood hydrotherapy centre swimming pool is a facility for patient hydrotherapy and our local community.​ The pool is also used for exercise in pregnancy classes.

People can access the pool with referral from a healthcare provider. Approved community groups do not need a referral to use the pool.
