Senior doctors and dentists at Health NZ public hospitals and health services plan to strike for 48 hours on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September. Emergency departments will be open for emergencies only. GPs, after-hours and urgent care clinics, and other community health providers are not affected by the strike and will continue to operate as normal.

Pae Ora Waitaha is a free, healthy lifestyle programme that uses culturally based models such as Whānau Ora and Fonofale. It is for people who want to make lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellbeing. It can be adapted to your own needs and whānau/aiga (family) needs.
Who can join Pae Ora Waitaha
You can join Pae Ora Waitaha if you are either:
- an adult with a lifestyle-related physical health condition, or
- a tamaiti or rangatahi who has, or is at risk of having, a lifestyle-related physical health condition, with whānau or aiga who are also willing to make lifestyle changes.
You should also be part of at least one of the following communities:
- Māori
- Pacific
- remote rural, which means living in an R2 or R3 area
- culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD)
- LGBTIQA+.
How Pae Ora Waitaha works
You will be put in contact with a Pae Ora Waitaha connector who will work with you and your whānau or aiga to set and achieve your own goals for a healthy lifestyle. This could include activities that help you:
- get and keep fit
- be a healthy weight
- get better sleep.
