Senior doctors and dentists at Health NZ public hospitals and health services plan to strike for 48 hours on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September. Emergency departments will be open for emergencies only. GPs, after-hours and urgent care clinics, and other community health providers are not affected by the strike and will continue to operate as normal.

In an emergency when you have a broken bone, call 111 or visit the hospital Emergency Department.
The outpatients department is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. It is closed on weekends and public holidays.
Orthopaedic acute care is open 7 days a week including public holidays, 8am to 11pm.

You can access the outpatient department through Christchurch Hospital's main entrance. Acute care is at the emergency department on the ground floor of Waipapa building.

A healthcare provider can refer you to the orthopaedic outpatient department for follow up care. For acute care, you can refer yourself through the Emergency Department or get your healthcare provider to refer you.
