Services we provide
Rheumatology services for Otago and Southland are provided by Dunedin Hospital. A Dunedin-based rheumatologist visits Southland Hospital 2 days a fortnight.
A rheumatologist is a specialist doctor who can discuss with you the possible diagnosis for problems affecting your joints, muscles and bones. They can also recommend further tests or treatments.
After your appointment, the rheumatologist will contact your healthcare provider with details about:
- your diagnosis
- any test results
- a plan for your care.
You may have follow-up appointments with the rheumatology service before you see any other services for help with your condition or are discharged back to the care of your healthcare provider.
Referral information
Your main healthcare provider will refer you to us if they think you have an autoimmune disorder or if they need assistance diagnosing or treating arthritis.
