The purpose of the Fracture Liaison Service is to help you to prevent a second fracture if you have already had an initial fracture.

Our hours are 7:30am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
Services we provide
We may be able to help if:
- you are over the age of 50
- you live in Hawke's Bay
- you have had a low-trauma accident, such as a simple trip or fall
- the accident has caused a bone fracture, excluding the skull, hands or feet.
Our service follows guidelines set by Osteoporosis New Zealand with clinical supervision by specialist doctors in rheumatology, endocrinology and older people's health.
The Fracture Liaison Service offers bone health and lifestyle advice to help prevent you having further fractures. Bone density scans and bone strengthening medicines are sometimes recommended.
Referral information
You can be referred to the Fracture Liaison Service by:
- a hospital specialist
- a general practitioner
- a registered nurse
- another health professional.
If you have been to the hospital fracture clinic after an accident, you should automatically be contacted by the service.
