This service does not manage the healing process of your latest fracture — that comes under the Orthopaedics Service.
Orthopaedics (bone health)
The Fracture Liaison Service offers bone health and lifestyle advice to help prevent you having further fractures. Bone density scans and bone strengthening medicines are sometimes recommended.
We may be able to help if:
- you are over the age of 50
- you live in Hawke's Bay
- you have had a low-trauma accident, such as a simple trip or fall
- the accident has caused a bone fracture, excluding the skull, hands or feet.
Our service follows guidelines set by Osteoporosis New Zealand with clinical supervision by specialist doctors in rheumatology, endocrinology and older people's health.
