Rheumatology is the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions commonly referred to as rheumatic diseases. These include arthritis (joint disorders), muscle disorders, bone disorders such as osteoporosis and connective tissue diseases.

Services we provide

Health New Zealand |Te Whatu Ora South Canterbury provides a comprehensive rheumatology service including:

  • diagnosis and treatment
  • twice-weekly rheumatology clinics at Timaru Hospital
  • education classes for new rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis patients.

Our primary healthcare team also provides a bone density (DEXA) scanning services to diagnose and treat patients with osteoporosis — this service is based at 23 Dee Street, Timaru.
