Audiology includes hearing and balance. Clinical audiology is the service that assesses hearing and hearing disorders and helps people cope with and improve their auditory and balance problems.

Services we provide

Audiology is part of Health New Zealand South Canterbury's Allied Health Service. Audiology services in South Canterbury include:

  • neonatal (newborn) assessment
  • rehabilitation of pēpi (babies) referred from the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening programme
  • specialised behavioural assessment of hearing in tamariki under 4 years
  • monitoring of grommets for ENT patients
  • diagnostic (site of lesion) assessment of adults and older tamariki
  • hearing aid fitting for infants, children and adults
  • monitoring of hearing levels for oncology (cancer) patients
  • combined clinics with the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Department, both in Timaru and at Ashburton Hospital.

Referral information
