Services we provide
The intensive care unit provides specialist care to adults and children who have severe or life-threatening medical problems. This includes people who have suffered severe trauma or had high-risk surgery.
Visitor information
Visiting hours are from 8am and the main doors close at 8pm. Use the intercom outside the ICU doors to be let in.
You may be able to visit outside visiting hours — talk with security downstairs.
If you are feeling unwell, do not come to the hospital as you may spread an infection.
Patients can be easily tired and overwhelmed so only 2 people should visit at a time. The busiest hours are between 9am and 11am when patients are being seen by the doctors.
Children are welcome to visit. But it is important they are prepared for what they will experience, and they must not be left unattended.
Hygiene
Disinfect your hands with sanitising gel or wash your hands before and after visiting the ICU. There may be additional hygiene measures when visiting some patients — the nurse will advise you of this.
Do not bring flowers and plants because they can create a risk of infection.
Mobile phones
Mobile phones can be used inside the ICU but talk to staff first as they can interfere with some machines. We encourage you to put your phone on vibrate or silent.
