Services we provide

Our service assesses your health before your planned surgery or procedure. We check that you are fit for surgery and make sure you have the information you need about your procedure and later discharge from hospital.

When you come to the clinic, you will see an administrator, a clinical nurse specialist and possibly an anaesthetist. They will:

  • discuss and document your health history
  • take your blood pressure, pulse and blood oxygen saturations, and your weight and height
  • listen to your heart and lungs
  • explain the process of care in the operating theatre and discuss possible anaesthetic and pain relief options
  • discuss how you are going to manage when you get home

You may need an ECG (an electrocardiogram, to check the electrical activity of your heart), blood tests, swabs and to give a urine sample.
