The Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Toka Tumai Auckland diabetes in pregnancy clinic is at Auckland Hospital. Our team of doctors, diabetes midwives and dietitians work with you and your lead maternity carer (LMC) to manage diabetes during your pregnancy (gestational diabetes).

Outside of normal work hours, do not text your diabetes midwife for any pregnancy emergencies or urgent diabetes concerns. Contact your self-employed LMC or contact the women's assessment unit (WAU).

Clinic hours are:

  • Monday, 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4:30pm
  • Wednesday, 8am to 2pm.
To access this service, you must be referred by your healthcare provider or LMC.

Services we provide

The diabetes in pregnancy team consists of:

  • doctors who look after your pregnancy (obstetricians)
  • doctors who look after your diabetes (physicians)
  • medical registrars (doctors)
  • diabetes midwives
  • dietitians
  • a South Seas Healthcare Pacific Liaison.

Appointments

Appointments may take 2 to 4 hours during which you see a number of the health professionals from our team. Come prepared with a book, healthy snacks and water.

Gestational diabetes (internal link)

Things to remember

  • Contact your diabetes midwife by phone or email at least once a week with your blood test results.
  • Bring your glucose meter to each clinic appointment. Write your results down so the diabetes team can track your 
    progress.
  • For repeat prescriptions and any non-urgent queries, contact the team between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.

To get an appointment with the diabetes in pregnancy team you need to be referred by your healthcare provider or LMC.

Our team will review the information we receive and either communicate with your LMC or contact you directly to arrange a clinic appointment.
