Senior doctors and dentists at Health NZ public hospitals and health services plan to strike for 48 hours on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September. Emergency departments will be open for emergencies only. GPs, after-hours and urgent care clinics, and other community health providers are not affected by the strike and will continue to operate as normal.

Trained technicians provide free screening testing at:
- birth - Newborn hearing screening services
- 4 years
- 5 years ( if missed at 4)
- year 9 in Decile 1 to 5 schools.
Preschool screening
In preparation for starting school, all eligible 4-year-olds have a hearing screening test as a component of their B4 School Check.
This screening test is carried out in community clinics alongside Public Health nurses or at Early Childhood Centers, or home visits.

New entrant hearing screening test
A hearing screening test is provided for all eligible new entrant children who missed having a B4School Check.
Year 9 hearing screening test
A hearing screening test is provided for all eligible Year 9 students in Decile 1-5 schools as part of the Year 9 HEEADSSS Assessment.
