Use of information

All gathered information will:

  • be used for programme planning across New Zealand
  • only be reported anonymously
  • not be used for any other purpose. 

Health New Zealand will not contact responders unless they have expressed interest in hearing about openings for the primary care registration pathway to practice in New Zealand.

We may update this privacy statement from time to time. Please check this privacy statement regularly for modifications and updates. This privacy statement was last updated on 2 April 2025

As part of the expression of interest (EOI) process we may collect the following personal information.

  • Your full name
  • Your email and phone number
  • The city in which you currently live
  • Your current progress toward participation in the primary care pathway
  • Your previous medical experience
  • Where you obtained your medical education
  • Your interest in primary care
  • Where you would like to work

This information will be held by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora. We only keep your personal information for as long as required for the purposes outlined in this privacy statement and in accordance with the law.

This information will be used to contact you if you have indicated that you would like Health NZ to hold your information and email you if there are any openings to apply to a primary care registration pathway to practice in New Zealand. If you choose to opt-out of the EOI collection of information and do not provide us with the requested contact information we will not be able to email you if there are any openings to apply to a primary care registration pathway to practice in New Zealand.

Health NZ may use the information for planning and reporting purposes to assist in the planning for a primary care pathway to registration for up to 100 overseas doctors

We may share your (non-identifiable) information with external parties for reporting purposes. This may include Government officials, the Medical Council of New Zealand and the Ministry of Health.

We take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information is protected against loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure, or other misuse.

You have the right to access any information we hold about you and ask us to correct it if you think it is wrong.  To access any personal information held by us, or if you wish to correct your information, email Primary.Care@tewhatuora.govt.nz

When making a request to access or change your information, please include:

  • your name
  • contact address — email or postal
  • contact phone number
  • details of the information you want to access or want to correct — this needs to be as clear and specific as you can make it.

We may ask you for more details.
