Te Waka Hauora hospital service
The service:
- supports whānau with information that aids understanding of hospital processes, procedures and expectations
- provides whānau with information that facilitates active participation in the treatment and discharge planning process (this may include facilitation of whānau hui to enhance understanding of proposed care and treatment options)
- offers advocacy and referral on discharge to a range of community services.
Te Waka Hauora Māori health service representatives will visit you on the ward to discuss what supports are available.
Te Waka Hauora Māori mental health services
Our Te Waka Hauora Māori mental health team are experienced clinicians who culturally assess and consider intervention pathways for Māori who are over the age of 18 years with severe psychiatric conditions.
Self-referrals can be made, or by healthcare providers, community agencies and family or friends with the client's permission.
Māori community health service: Te Piki Oranga
Te Piki Oranga is the leading provider of Māori wellness services in Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Māui (Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough).
Qualified kaimahi provide a wide range of free, confidential services and cultural support, designed by Māori for Māori.
They work from health hubs in Wairau, Whakatū Nelson, and Motueka, and also bring services closer to home with mobile outreach clinics and home visits.
Te Piki Oranga also provides a range of kaupapa Māori mental health services, and alcohol and other drugs services.
