Services we provide

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Whanganui contracts its laboratory services from Medlab Central, which operates a laboratory in Whanganui Hospital. The laboratory provides an extensive range of diagnostic testing on site for community and hospital patients.

There are a total of 7 full-time and part-time Pathologists in the Medlab Central group, comprising:

  • 3 Histopathologists
  • 2 Haematologists
  • 1 Microbiologist
  • 1 Chemical Pathologist.

We also have 4 Pathology Registrars. There are over 350 staff members in the laboratory group (including part-time staff).

Referral information

You can be referred for a laboratory test by healthcare providers including general practitioners, midwives, nurse practitioners and specialist doctors.
