Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

Find out when to use an International Travel Vaccination Pass or COVID-19 vaccination record as proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status.

International Travel Vaccination Certificate

When you may need it

If you are travelling overseas and must show proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status, you need an International Travel Vaccination Certificate.

This certificate is available to anyone aged 5 or over who has had any dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in New Zealand.

We also recommend downloading a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination records from My Covid Record to use alongside your International Travel Vaccination Certificate.

What information is on it

Your International Travel Vaccination Certificate has a QR code with information about the COVID-19 vaccine doses you have had in New Zealand.

The details on it must match your passport — you can review these when you request the certificate.

The International Travel Vaccination Certificate complies with EU Digital COVID Certificate standards.

It is valid for 12 months.

If you had a COVID-19 vaccination overseas

New Zealanders vaccinated overseas can apply for a New Zealand International Travel Certificate. This only applies if you cannot get a valid international travel certificate from the country you had your vaccinations.

To do this you must:

  • be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • have had a vaccine that New Zealand accepts
  • have an existing National Health Index Number (NHI)
  • have recorded your overseas vaccination in the COVID Immunisations Register.

You can record your overseas vaccination with the COVID Immunisations Register online:

Request an international travel certificate

To request your international travel certificate, email help@mycovidrecord.min.health.nz — include your reference number from the overseas vaccine submission form.

If you have a medical exemption

Temporary medical exemptions are only valid in Aotearoa New Zealand and will not appear on your International Travel Vaccination Certificate.

If you are planning to travel overseas, you will need to check the COVID-19 vaccination requirements and exemption policies of your airline and the country you are travelling to.

My Vaccine Pass

You can no longer request a new My Vaccine Pass. If you require proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status, you can still get a copy of your vaccination record or an International Travel Vaccination Certificate.
