Services we provide

Your tamaiti will be cared for by a skilled team of:

  • doctors
  • nurses
  • social workers
  • play specialists
  • dieticians
  • speech-language therapists
  • physiotherapists
  • cultural support workers

Our team is committed to working with you to provide the best care for your tamaiti.

A nurse will be allocated to your tamaiti each shift and they will introduce themselves to you and your tamaiti, and answer any questions you may have.

A paediatric doctor is in the hospital at all times. Our doctors have ward rounds throughout the day. During the ward round the doctor will discuss the care of your tamaiti with you and give you time to ask questions.

Our play specialist works closely with you, your tamaiti and the team to make your stay as positive an experience as possible.

Playroom and Radio Lollipop

Our wonderful playroom is filled with toys, DVD's and fun activities for tamariki to do.

If your tamaiti is too unwell to move from their room or needs to stay in their room, a supply of toys can be brought to them.

Volunteers from Radio Lollipop provide fun and entertainment to tamariki on dedicated weeknights.

While your tamaiti is in the ward

Staying overnight

For the comfort of your tamaiti we ask that 1 parent or caregiver stays overnight. If this is difficult speak to the nurse who can discuss this with you.

Visiting hours

Visiting hours are from 8am to 8pm every day.

We try to keep the ward as quiet as possible to let tamariki rest

A parent or caregiver needs to be present when your tamaiti has visitors.

Tamariki are welcome to visit but make sure they are supervised by an adult.

We ask that no visitors come to the ward if they are sick for the wellbeing of all tamariki in the ward.

Meals

We provide meals for all tamariki that are patients on the ward, and a meal for 1 parent or caregiver who stays with them.

Let staff know if you or your tamaiti has any allergies or requires a special diet.

Our parent kitchen has a microwave, fridge, hot water, tea, coffee, and eating utensils for you to use. Make sure all hot drinks are covered with the lids provided to keep our tamariki safe from spills.

Other food options

There is a café in the main entrance of the hospital open daily from 7:30am to 4pm.

Across the road from the hospital entrance is a dairy, take away shop and bakery.

Breast pump

We have an electric breast pump available for your use. Ask staff if you need to store breast milk in a fridge or have any other needs.

Clothing and nappies

Bring your own clothes and nappies for your pēpi and tamariki. However, see your nurse if you are unable to do so or need support with this.

Phones

There are phones available for local calls only in your room and the kitchen. Dial 1 first to ring out. Calls to cellphones and toll calls will need to be discussed with the staff.

ATM

An ATM is located in the foyer of the main entrance to the hospital.
