About Buller Health Centre

Buller Health - Te Rau Kawakawa delivers integrated family health care and hosts a general practice and community care clinics, an acute stabilisation unit (ASU), rural inpatient beds, and a primary birthing room. As well as providing services to Westport, Ngākawau, and Karamea, it provides a wide range of community-based services and supports Westport’s O’Conor Home (Aged Residential Care facility) with on-site services at O’Conor home.

Buller Health Centre has a 24/7 Acute Care Service for critical or life-threatening injuries or illnesses. The acute care team will stabilise you and decide if you need to be transferred to another facility for on-going treatment and care. 

After hours rural primary care service

Ka Ora Telecare provides free health advice and treatment on weeknights (5pm to 8am) and 24 hours a day on weekends and public holidays.

The Ka Ora team will refer you to the in-person service available in your area if you need it.

Health shuttle

The Hato Hone St John Health Shuttle is a community service that transports people to and from medical and health related appointments.

The service is run by volunteers. A donation is greatly appreciated to help cover costs.

The shuttles operate Monday to Friday and bookings need be made by 3pm the day before your appointment. 

The shuttle route is from Westport to Greymouth (through Reefton, if requested and available).

Buller Taxis medical shuttle

Buller Taxis runs a free medical shuttle to Greymouth and Nelson. Book at least 24 hours before your appointment.


National Travel Assistance

The National Travel Assistance Scheme helps people who need to travel long distances or travel frequently for health appointments.
