Senior doctors and dentists at Health NZ public hospitals and health services plan to strike for 48 hours on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September. Emergency departments will be open for emergencies only. GPs, after-hours and urgent care clinics, and other community health providers are not affected by the strike and will continue to operate as normal.

The outpatients service provides many different treatments and procedures, for different medical specialties. Services include:
- biopsies
- dressings and stitches
- removing drains
- vein assessment
- radiology assessment, including x-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound, echocardiograms
- hearing screening
- eye injections
- steroid injections
- heart tests
- minor surgery.
Referral information
Your healthcare provider will refer you to see a specialist at the outpatients clinic. High priority referrals will be booked as soon as possible. Routine referrals will be booked within 4 months.
