Services we provide
Staff aim to empower the community with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions related to their sexual health and relationships. They are also committed to ending sexual violence within our community as well as stigma against minority communities such as the Rainbow community. Public health kaimahi in Canterbury, South Canterbury and on the West Coast provide the following services:
- advocacy for empowered and equitable sexual and reproductive health
- access to STI prevention measures such as condoms, lube, and sexual health information
- regular upskilling opportunities for professionals working in sexual health
- supporting LGBTQIA+ and Takatāpui whānau
- public health nurses to support student health in schools and the wider whānau in the community
- contact tracing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV
PrEP means taking daily medicine to reduce the risk of becoming infected with HIV. PrEP is available in Christchurch to people who are at high risk of becoming infected with HIV. Contact the Christchurch Sexual Health Service for more information.
