Senior doctors and dentists at Health NZ public hospitals and health services plan to strike for 48 hours on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September. Emergency departments will be open for emergencies only. GPs, after-hours and urgent care clinics, and other community health providers are not affected by the strike and will continue to operate as normal.

Diabetes is a long term condition caused by too little production of the hormone insulin (type 1 diabetes) or a combination of this and the body's resistance to the insulin (type 2 diabetes).

Services we provide
Our diabetes service provides:
- comprehensive care for people with Type 1 diabetes — including carbohydrate counting education and DAFNE courses and also the use of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring
- a young adult (16 to 25 years old) diabetes service for people with Type 1 and 2 diabetes
- diagnosis of unusual forms of diabetes
- extra support to improve control for some people with Type 2 diabetes.
